Last week Brycen Goodine ’19 was honored with the Gatorade Rhode Island Player of the Year award.
Established in 1985, the award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character. One athlete from each state is awarded to recognize the nation’s best student-athletes. Goodine has been chosen as Rhode Island’s best high school boys basketball player.
Goodine is the seventh Gatorade Rhode Island Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from St. Andrew’s. His teammate, Cole Swider ’18, was distinguished last year with this award.
Goodine is now a finalist for the National Gatorade Player of the Year award. He recently finished his season at the Class AA Championship with the St. Andrew’s boys prep basketball team, coached by Mike Hart and John O’Shea.
Hart, who has coached basketball here for 24 years, says that Brycen “exemplifies a St. Andrew’s student on all levels. He’s a hard worker, gets involved in our community, and generally cares about others. He has committed early to Syracuse University and is a top 100 player in the USA.”
